Thanks for the heads up!!

Glad to see that deal Netflix made with Miramax is giving them a reason to break out the vault and simply release the movies as is in original language!!

Huh... didn't know "Twinkle Twinkle" was a Miramax owned film here in the US. Guess that explains why Fox only released My Lucky Stars.

As for Dragons Forever, it was actually shown on Spike TV several years ago in Cantonese with English subs. I was pretty shocked when I saw the Miramax logo first, and then the Chinese version of the film began to play! The weird thing was it had the export English titles at the beginning of the film.

Wonder who would have the DVD/blu-ray rights to these now. Echo Bridge? Lionsgate? Lord knows their distribution is all over the place now.

I know. Any time I search for a good dvd copy of Dragons Forever the price is almost always astronomical. If it's affordable then it's out of stock.

SD, treat yourself to a multi-region player.

Not only would it open you up to a bigger choice of releases you could pick up the new Cine Asia/Hong Kong Legends two disc of Dragons Forever for £8 plus shipping:tongue:

Dr. Wai is up there now, but it is dubbed.

I think most/all of the Miramax catalog is licensed out to Echo Bridge and Lionsgate, but who knows if they will ever release any of these titles on blu-ray. I remember when BCI was going to release a bunch of these - and then they got closed down

Additionally, they've added ZU: WARRIORS FROM THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN (the original), EASY MONEY with Michelle Yeoh, IRON MONKEY II (the 1977 movie), and KING OF BEGGARS. KING OF BEGGARS is subtitled and in Cantonese mono (a shame, as it was originally released in Dolby Stereo), but it's cropped to 4:3. IRON MONKEY II is widescreen and dubbed. Haven't checked out ZU yet. I had NO idea Miramax bought IRON MONKEY II at some point.

EDIT - That isn't the original ZU they've added to Netflix, it's the SUBTITLED, UNCUT version of LEGEND OF ZU... which is also available on Netflix in Miramax's dubbed hacked up version as ZU WARRIORS, mentioned above. It's just sporting the cast list and plot description of the original 80s film. It's cropped to 16:9 from 2.35:1, unfortunately.

Argh, you're right, ZU is cropped. Bummer.

They've added some more: Tiger Cage 2 (dubbed) and Dream Lovers (subtitled).

Thanks for clearing things up regarding Zu. It's so confusing when you have films false mislabeled, or some movies dubbed, some movies subbed, some movies in their incorrect aspect ratio, etc. Freakin' Miramax. Oh well, I'm not going to complain because they have quite the selection on Netflix streaming now.

Instantwatcher.com is invaluable for keeping track of what's on (and new on) Netflix Instant. I'd never have stumbled across many of those Miramax titles otherwise.

Oh yeah. I use Instant Watcher and (to a lesser extent) Streaming Soon to stay on top of things. I just kinda add these flicks to my queue, though, and I never would have caught that whole "Zu" mix-up until I started watching them. I try to keep an updated list of the Asian films on Netflix Instant on City on Fire and label things as dubbed and/or HD.

Also, "BK: Bangkok Knockout" (2010), a Thai martial arts movie, was added today.

Just a heads up: nearly 20 Korean language films were added to Netflix Instant today. Dramas, action movies, crime films, thrillers, etc.
