What was the last classic martial-arts film you watched?

I noticed that the Modern Forum had one of these but the classic didn't, so I thought I would start one.

I guess I will get the ball rolling by saying the last I watched was "Buddha's Palm". It was pretty bad.:squigglemouth:

Iron Neck Li. Pretty good. A fight over a girl that turns into a massacre. Chi Kuan Chun is the emperors chief escort, and an almost invincible beast taking on 200 what can only be described as Taiwanese Indians. Choi Wang as the (misguided) villain. Not a whole lot of action until the end but the fights were good, and it had a lot of funny parts. Overall I liked it. The reason I picked it up was it had one of the best trailers I had ever seen.

Hellz Windstaff (Hwang Jang Lee) - I love this old skool classic, non stop fights and Hwang is great as the (almost) invincible villain.

showdown at the cotton mill – overall quite an enjoyable movie but the picture quality is absolutely dreadful. It really puts into perspective when people complain about a less than perfect DVD release when they use the term poor or shoddy!

Yao's young warriors – overall not too bad but could've been better. The movie is filled with some clearly extremely talented young Wushu practitioners, that can pull off some fantastic acrobatic moves. However, there was far too much speed up used during the fights and some look like they could have been choreographed better or maybe just the time to perfect. I think the movie was too ambitious for the budget and they really needed higher production values.

Is Crush easy to find on DVD?

Not really; I got my copy from Jamal. It's a widescreen and subtitled print, but it's in PAL.

Point me in the direction of where that DVD may be found for the version I have I've never made it past the film's first 15 mins.

Most of Jackie's back catalogue, pre Drunken Master. Dragon Fist and Snake & Crane are my favourites of the bunch.

Dragon Fist is a great movie. When I first saw it, I was suprised by how well Jackie does in a serious role.

A Fistful of Talons - loved Billy Chong's final film for the Eternal Film Co. Hwang In-Shik made a great villain, Pai Ying made a great mentor and the eagles brought in a nice twist to the story :)

Popped in Odd Couple last night, I really like that movie, I think It wouldve been better if the undercranking wasnt soo obvious in some scenes. Is anyone able to reedit something like that? I mean slow down a scene,, just a hair.

My thoughts exactly! The under cranking ruined it for me ! If someone could slow down the fight sequences to a more regular speed(or just less cranked) I would love to see the movie again.

I've been on an old school kick of late: Avenging Eagle; 8 Diagram Pole Fighter; Snake in the Eagle's Shadow; Drunken Master; 36 Crazy Fists; and for tonight...Dance of the Drunken Mantis.

Yea, the undercranking really did a number to that movie. Samo and LKW are my favorite duo, sometimes undercranking is needed, but not for these guys!! Sucks in some ways I think the undercranking takes away from some of the performance. I have Eastern Condors and Shanghai Express on deck for the weekend, I havent seen either one. Broken Fist and Ill Finally Knock You Down Dad, hopefully show up today, I havent seen either of those films either, Im a little more excited to see BF and IWFKYDD, and of course theyre taking their sweet time getting here.

How did you enjoy Avenging Eagle and Eight Diagram Pole Fighter? I'll be interested to read your more detailed reviews of all those movies including and especially Dance of the Drunken Mantis which I haven't gotten around to seeing just yet.

You have some great movies ahead of you to look forward to! It's weird seeing Sammo so trim in Eastern Condors and from what I read the studios weren't happy he lost all that weight.

I have a huge love for Broken Path A.K.A. Broken Fist which once it gets started is absolutely unrelentless!:xd:

Whoa! You are in for a treat! Can't wait to hear what you think of them.

Yeah ShaOW!linDude, that would be cool to read.

Why is that? You'd think they'd want their big star and moneymaker to be healthier so that he lives longer and they'd make even more dough.

The last one I watched was LADY WHIRLWIND. Great flick!
