Dude, I've been trying to jump on this for years. This show is fucking amazing. I was tempted to buy the Japanese version but 200 bucks, but fuck!!! I need money for hookers in Vegas if I'm going to blow that kind of money, ;)

LOL! You're shopping in the wrong place in Vegas. You gotta visit the lower-quality neighborhoods. Most of 'em will work for you a 99¢ double cheeseburger!

Oh nice. I never knew about this series, much less Bruce's involvement.

As a casual fan of James Franciscus, this sounds really good (and sounds like it would be an interesting companion piece to watch with Dario Argento's Cat o' Nine Tails.)

There's been bootlegs floating around gor years and i have the long out of print japanese box set but at last Longstreet is getting an official  USA release in a couple of weeks time... reasonably priced too!

I can't wait to see how this turns out. If it's the same company that released Martial Law, then I'm not expecting much. Hope they don't try to cram too many episodes on a single disc. Now, someone really needs to get their crap together and release The Green Hornet.

Can anyone confirm the Quality of this DVD set?

Here's a couple of quotes from Amazon reviewers.

Nice to have this series available on DVD, but the picture quality leaves something to be desired; it isn't horrible, I'd rate the picture as fair (maybe a little better than VHS), but better quality was possible. You could say this is an old TV program, what do you expect, but look at the impressive picture on the even older Batman or Star Trek series on DVD & Bluray. Also, Longstreet was released in Japan (region 2) in 2007 and everything about that set from picture quality to packaging was better than this U.S. release (I bought the American set mainly for more easily navigable English menus). All things considered, this American release of Longstreet (it contains no extras or bonus material, by the way) is over-priced by at least 10 dollars, you might want to wait for the price to drop before buying.

Good classic TV series. A lot of negative reviews about the video quality - which I found perfectly okay, but none about the sound. The dialogue is at one volume and all the background music is at another shockingly LOUD volume, and really annoying. You have to keep your finger on the remote's volume control or get your ears blasted with all the music that fills the gaps between (all) scenes. I also find it interesting that the description of this product does not even mention the main star in the series: James Franciscus. Without him, there is no series.

Glad to have it on video after all these years. Just wished VEI would have spread the episodes on more discs than all 24 episodes crammed on four low resolution DVDs (with a ton of compression issues along with the bit rate barely over 2.0). For $30 I would have liked at least seven or eight discs with higher bit rates used to help the image from looking horrible. This is still a treasure to have if you are a fan. But like one reviewer stated its barely better than VHS quality. What a shame on such a great series from the early '70s. LONGSTREET deserves much better respect on home video.
Don't be fooled by the picture. The case is a standard single DVD case with DVDs stacked on the inside covers. Nice and thin.

These reviews certinaly don't paint a good picture, it's not a series I'm into owning, but its about time they created a decent quality release of this, and The Green Hornet series.

Thanks for that DragonClaws. I agree its overdue and time to release quality prints indeed. I'm sad it's not at least up to par with the Japanese DVD set. I have boots of the Green Hornet, waiting for the day its printed on Blu-Ray like Batman.

They have the Bruce Lee clips on Youtube. He looks slow compared to his Golden Harvest stuff, which was undercranked according to executives there. Not slower than the karate guys of the time, just not blazing fast, and some of his kicks are meh. Kind of an eye opener.

Too many movies...too little time

I will probably die before I catch up on my watch list.  I hope they have an all-region player in heaven....

Granted, but at the same time it's more on a realistic level, just like the Green Hornet. These fights are filmed a bit more on less shots rather than being cut after a fury of movement.

I mean, they are indeed fast, it's just important to note that filming can make things appear faster than they actually are. If Bruce would actually fight in real life, he wouldn't be throwing a million kicks at people and then instantly throwing punches at dudes. He's still fast, but the way scenes are filmed make them seem more instantaneous than they actually are. I don't know if that's making any sense or not, but hopefully you catch my drift lol.

Well, exactly what I was expecting. Sorry to say that, but, I do believe they are the same company that released Martial Law. And, same issues. Too many episodes on not enough discs and compression issues. Not the best PQ or nowhere near it but I guess that it beats not having these at all. And, yes, overpriced for what we get. Really a letdown because we have waited so long for these titles and when they are released, crap releases.

I really don't think they did that much under cranking with Bruce at all in those GH films. If so, it was nothing at all like seen in other GH films. If you watch the live sparring stuff on youtube then that would probably give you a better idea of his true speed. Or, any of his backyard workout stuff. And, he probably displayed more of his true speed on the Long Street episodes. But, yeah, he was a lot faster than a lot of guys. But, just a human; not some mega human that was the fastest person in the world. But, from what I remember reading, he was "forced" to slow his movements down while filming The Green Hornet for various reasons. But, that story could be BS. Hard to say unless someone that worked on that series could verify that information for certain.

Yes, Samo looks like an awkward fat guy in game of death, but give him some quick cuts and bam! The truth lies somewhere in between

Dont forget Sammo was playing the inferior fighter, he wasnt there to make Bob Wall look bad. Had he been playing the Bob Wal character, they would have made him look a lot more impressive.
