Since he is my fave martial arts director and actor I think it is time for me to buy his films but I am only interested in pristine high quality copies. I have not much knowledge about the technical aspects of films I hardly ever buy films on blue ray or dvd or whatever it is that is regarded as top quality these days.

So which titles are available to buy? I presume his Shaw Brothers films are all released in such quality plus the Chinese boxer and one armed boxer? Hopefully there is more...

Return Of The Chinese Boxer has a german blu ray release, english dubbed. Knight Errant has a german blu ray release, english dubbed or chinese audio with subs. Man From Hong Kong has both a USA and an australian blu ray release.

On DVD there is a great 6 film collection from Shout but i imagine it's now oop.

His appearance in Zatoichi meets the One-Armed Swordsman is terrific and it's available on blu ray as part of the Zatoichi box set from Criterion. The Shanghai 13 got a HK blu ray release.

Chinese Boxer looked fine, especially the blood in the snow at the end with Lo Lieh.

Lo Lieh is just awesome. A superior on screen fighter, imo.  He was like a ballet dancer when he played Pai Mei.

He flows like water! He put the practice time in, for sure. Charismatic as hell too, from young to later on in his career.

Damn that’s not too much is it! So there is not even master of the flying guillotine ?

This might ultimately be the best version once some restoration work is applied.

There is also a German DVD of The invincible and a Vengeance Video DVD of Magnificent chivalry, but I'm not skilled enough in picture quality to say if they are absolutely marvelous, and I don' t remember either how they looked when I watched them...

We can't forget his best role which was in Fantasy Mission Force and that has an English friendly German blu ray release.

He was very good in his last credited acting role in a psychological thriller/horror Taiwanese film called Soul. It has an English friendly blu ray release.

Forgot about Fantasy Mission Force. Magnificent Chivalry on VV isn't great. Also there's also english friendly Killer Meteors but only available as part of a scandanavian JC box set.

If i was a billionaire I’d  restore his entire filmography. I love them in dubbed english with washed out colors and out of focus image. I can only dream how much I would love them in cinematic quality

There's also a blu ray of Desperate Chase aka Blood of the Dragon from Gold Ninja but with the caveat that it's not true HD and it's OOP now but that's probably the best looking transfer of that movie that is available in it's OAR.

Legendary Collection dvd of great "the invincible sword" is good, tho not "perfect". But at least it`s original language subbed(likely some typos around, been some years since watched it), widescreen and fair PQ.

Could be a rights entanglement but I never understood why Steve Oedekerk never organised for his HD print of Tiger and Crane Fists to be released, all we've had to rely on over the years are bad quality VHS rips and knowing that there is a wide-screen HD copy somewhere, I don't understand why something hasn't been arranged by the company that gave Oedekerk the print in the first place to release it on DVD.

(Oedekerk used excerpts of the film for Kung Pow:Enter the Fist)
