FAQ

What does 'digitally retouched version of the best available high-definition (1:85:1) master' mean?

A: We have cleaned up some of the major defects in the existing master. Please note however that it is not a new transfer.

What is so special about DTS-HD Master audio?

A: The previous release used Dolby AC3, which is a highly compressed, or "lossy" form of audio. DTS-HD Master audio is "lossless" and provides a vast improvement in overall audio quality.

Why did Ronin Flix create new English subtitles for Fist of Legend?

A: The previous release used "dubtitles," which were transcribed from the english language audio track.  The new subtitles are a faithful translation of the original Cantonese language version, properly timed to match the onscreen dialogue.

I’m guessing it refers to dust busting and field blending.

I applaud the efforts they’re making, though I don’t see it as the holy grail in relation to a definitive presentation.

Corrected subtitles, Cantonese mono... this sounds too good to be true.  I reached out to Ronin's "contact us" page on a whim to ask whether the movie has the long-missing epilogue text, and if the deleted scenes are the Taiwan version's unique content.  I doubt I'll hear back with a definitive answer, but who knows.  This has potential.  Of course, if 88/Eureka have this in the works in the future, I'd hold off and let them work their magic.

I may end up getting this but.......I'd rather 88 or Eureka work on it.  But the Dragon Dynasty features though.

If anyone takes the plunge, I would greatly appreciate details on how it turned out.  If it has the long-missing epilogue, if the deleted scenes are the stuff from the Taiwan version, I'm all in.

It seems to be the same features that were on the Dragon Dynasty discs. The difference here is updated A/V and subtitle.

Remember that the UK Version of Fist of Legend has correct subtitles so it is an improvement on the American Dragon Dynasty version.

Yeah, that is pretty common with Ronin's releases.  In fact the time between a title going for sale on Ronin's site and a wide releases is usually much longer.

Lol. I cant believe they are using dubtitles as a sales point. No mention of it being the full version of the film so this indicates will essentially be the same as dragon dynasty versions. May be worth having for fong sai yuk 2 on blu for a cheap price.

Shame.  Ronin has done some pretty solid releases (like the now OOP Hardware.) 

 

Since these are limited to one pressing, I wonder if (hope that) these are on a short license from whoever owns the part of the Weinstein catalog that these ended up with. A last minute cash grab before the rights expire and the films can be picked up by someone with the time to do them right.
