Oh wow, I had that movie on DVD and I don't remember even half of that idiocy. Which means, dear God, a Fantasy Mission Force movie night is forthcoming.

It's been a long time since I watched ZU, I think I watched an old vhs, or vhs rip and never seen it look so good as in that clip, love all the sets in this movie!

Never seen Fantasy Mission Force, one thing about those 80's movies, they may have been cheesy but you have to love the pure effort put into those movies, real explosions and real stuntmen-women taking a beating, we need to get back to basics in film.

Tosh, I think you're vastly overrating Fantasy Mission Force (either that or I haven't seen enough of the other movies your classifying it with). For one thing, it's hard to see any exertion of effort behind it. The movie made no attempt at coherence, and the trailer made as much sense as the movie itself. The plot is some sort of commando mission to rescue Abraham Lincoln from the Japanese, who kidnapped him as part of their plan to invade Canada from the US. Or something.

I think the first 20 minutes I saw it I keep thinking to myself, "I can't believe each scene so far is more retarded than the previous one; wonder when that will stop."

Here's a good review of it, the one that made me go check it out:

http://teleport-city.com/wordpress/?p=586

re reading the review - oh right, how could I forget the Nazis riding in chariots drawn by 70's muscle cars with swastikas painted on them.

Well, I don't believe effort and coherence always go hand and hand:wink: have you ever seen a Troma flick? Doesn't necessarily mean there isn't any entertainment value. Just making a point that CG has made the movie industry lazy and boring, I for one would like to see the FX, acrobats, and stunt people getting back to work.

Only Adam can make taking cash from a cashpoint COOL!! Wish some swordsmen would attack me when I am taking money out, then I could get some shapes practice in too.

Ref Zu Warriors always preferred the American version as that was the 1st version I saw-with Yuen Biao kicking off with some modern day pubwork before heading back in time. Adam Cheng was a bit wasted in either version in my opinion though.

Fantasy Mission Force is a classic piece of utter crazy shit on the other hand...when I am pissed it is at its very best!! always end up humming that cool song in it "ooh wah lak ah lak ah ooh wah lak..."

Watched Zu the other day, kind of a cluster F of a movie, but it was nice to actually see what was going on, Brigitte Lin is absolutely gorgeous, I think I'll have to watch Bride with White Hair again as the copy I saw was totally unwatchable.

Thanks for the awesome video. Is Kong Ming the Cantonese pronunciation of his name? In Vietnamese music there are a number of related songs (shared melodic motifs) named after Kong Ming. In particular there's Kong Ming on the Balcony

(Khổng Minh Tọa Lầu http://youtu.be/az_s5wJhvik)

which refers to a specific episode of Romance of the 3 Kingdoms where Kong Ming bluffs and casually plays his zither on the balcony while his forces were actually in disarray and ill-prepared to meet Cao Cao's advance.

Production began this week on Ronny Yu's RMB 200 million epic family drama SAVING GENERAL YANG, starring Adam Cheng and Louis Koo as the patriarch and first son respectively. Based on a hugely successful series of books and plays, the film has twice been adapted for television in Hong Kong and so anticipation for a big screen version is expected to be high.

Vic Chou, Chun Wu, Raymond Lam, Fu Xinbo and Yu Bo round out the cast and filming has kicked off in Henan province, China. This promises to be a grand action epic, detailing four generations of the same family and the tested loyalties therein, and could yield exciting things in the hands of Ronny Yu, whose last film - Jet Li starrer FEARLESS - more than delivered on the martial arts front.

from filmbiz.asia (August 2011)

Note: the film is still on production.

Adam Cheng's two last films, Eight Hilarious Gods (1994) and Drunken Master III (1994) received bad critics, so Adam went into TV dramas ever since with success. This movie, Saving General Yang represent the return to the great screen of this star.
