In addition to Lion Maru, there was another tokusatsu that was set in medieval Japan, namely Henshin Ninja Arashi.  Do you remember that one, Whitesnake?

The only familiarity I may have with Henshin Ninja Arashi would be the opening song on one of the records I was picking up in the 1970s and 1980s.  On Youtube I couldn't find anything, no episodes, no opening song, except for an instrumental version of the opening song for karaoke.  At least it had scenes from the TV series.  Pages from the manga by Shotaro Ishinomori - Henshin Ninja Arashi manga monsters - were posted to the Vintage Ninja website - http://vintageninja.net/?p=3761   The Tokusatsu wiki and Kamen Rider Fandom wiki both have articles on Kamen Ninja Arashi -

Here's the karaoke instrumental of the Henshin Ninja Arashi theme at -

Has anyone seen Toho's answer to the Super Sentai Series, the Chouseishin series that only lasted from 2003-2006.

The first was Chouseishin Gransazer

The second was Geiseishin Justirisers (I saw this entire series)

The final series, Chousei Kantai Sazer-X, which also spawned a movie in 2005

The Super Sentai Series also launched a Thai rip-off entitled Sport Ranger and even inspired a French comedy series, France Five (they even had Akira Kushida sing the theme to the 2nd series)

The next Super Sentai release from Shout Factory is Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger: The Complete Series, available on DVD, with 51 episodes, on March 26, 2019, in Japanese with English subtitles, of course.  "When a tragedy befalls their fellow students on graduation day, three pupils of the Hayate Way's Ninja Academy must take on the Jakanja — a clan of evil space warriors. But they can't do it alone. Can they find the help they need? And can the young warriors act swiftly enough to defeat the Jakanja before they destroy the known universe?"  The catchphrase for the series is "Unknown even to others, unknown even to the world, we become shadows to defeat evil!"  This was Toei's 26th Super Sentai series.  Footage from the series was used for Power Rangers Ninja Storm.  Info from Wikipedia, http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Ninpu_Sentai_Hurricaneger  and https://www.shoutfactory.com/product/ninpuu-sentai-hurricaneger-the-complete-series?product_id=7024

Super Sentai Saikyo Battle!! (Super Sentai Strongest Battle) will be released as a four-episode weekly mini-series, starting on February 17, 2019.  It is a "crossover featuring a team of five characters from earlier Super Sentai series, though other characters may appear."  "A mysterious girl named Rita gathers heroes from the Super Sentai teams at the planet Nemesis.  The heroes are told that any wish they desire will come true if they can win the 'Super Sentai Greatest Battle' tournament, the 160 heroes divided into 32 teams of five to compete against each other to have their wishes granted.  The story follows the team composed of the Gokaigers' Captain Marvelous, the ToQgers' Kagura, the Zyuohgers' Yamato Kazakiri, the Ninningers' Takaharu Igasaki, and the Kyurangers' Stinger as they fight their competition while learning the truth behind the tournament."  Info from Wikipedia and https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-12-25/super-sentai-gets-4-episode-crossover-special-in-february/.141285

Here are the next Super Sentai heroes, Kishiryu Sentai Ryuusouger

"Toei announced... that Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger will be the 43rd work in the live-action Super Sentai series since 1975, and it will premiere on TV Asahi on March 17 [2019]... The series will be fourth in the franchise's dinosaur series after Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger (used by Saban to create Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) in 1992, Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger in 2000, and Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger in 2013.  The series' story centers on the evil Droidon clan, who once reigned over the Earth, and the Ryuso clan, who worked together with dinosaur companions known as Kishiryu to oppose the Droidons.  The Droicon clan escaped to space when a meteorite approached the planet 65 million years ago, but the Ryuso clan stayed behind.  Time passed, and the Droidons have reached the height of their power and returned to Earth.  Ryusoulger, the chosen knights of the Ryuso that protected Earth since ancient times, must now face the Droidon clan.  The show will feature a team of five Ryusoulger who wield the power of their Kishiryu companions.  The kanji characters for the word 'Ryusoulger' mean 'knights who fight while wearing the power of dinosaurs'."  Kazuya Kamihoriuchi is the director, Kiyoshi Yoshikawa is composing the music, Hirofumi Fukuzawa is the action director, Hiroshi Butsuda is the special effects director.  Story at https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-12-26/2019-super-sentai-tv-series-revealed-as-kishiryu-sentai-ryusoulger/.141320

Yes, I remember him from Battle Fever J.  Also I remember him appearing in many Samurai-TV shows.  A notable example is the episode from the Yagyu Conspiracy.   I don't know whether you remember any of those or not.

The series is premiering on March 17, 2019 instead of its usual February slot, because there will be a 4-part mini-series entitled The Super Sentai Strongest Battle, that will debut after Lupinranger vs. PatRanger.

Plot for the Super Sentai Strongest Battle:

A mysterious girl named Rita gathers heroes from the Super Sentai teams at the Planet Nemesis. The heroes are told that any wish they desire will come true if they can win the “Super Sentai Greatest Battle” tournament, the 160 heroes divided into 32 teams of five to compete against each other to have their wishes granted. The story follows the team composed of the Gokaigers' Captain Marvelous, the ToQgers' Kagura, the Zyuohgers' Yamato Kazakiri, the Ninningers' Takaharu Igasaki, and the Kyurangers' Stinger as they fight other heroes for the prize while learning the truth behind the tournament.

Masaki Nakao, Ryota Ozawa, Yosuke Kishi, Shunsuke Nishikawa, and Ai Moritaka will reprise their roles from their respective Super Sentai series for this 4-week event.

Thanks @whitesnake

Compared to the other chambara, LionMaru, I find that Henshin Ninja music to be way better.  In fact, much as I hate to say it, I don't like the LionMaru music at all. Another comparison is that Henshin Ninja has better swordplay too.  Notice the disappointing awkwardness in the LionMaru action.  But the one redeeming factor in the LionMaru series is its costume and prosthetics which are much more realistic than Henshin Ninja.  The Lion head seems to have been taken directly from a taxidermist.

The PR toyline has been transferred from Bandai to Hasbro (And presumably Takara?). Didn’t see that coming.

Not surprised because last May, Hasbro bought the Power Rangers from Saban, as well as some smaller properties for $522 million. Power Rangers: Beast Morphers will be the 1st PR series under Hasbro Entertainment in association with Saban.

I didn’t know that. I haven’t watched since SPD; I know Judd Lynn has been back lately, but all I’ve watched is the anniversary special. How’s it been lately?

When Saban got the rights back from Disney after RPM,  they actually did their most faithful series with Samurai,  which they took right from Shinkenger, story and all. Since then,  it's been a bit up and down. I liked Megaforce but Super Megaforce should've been a bit different although I loved the Legendary War episode.

My favorite Neo-Saban series: Samurai,  Dino Charge, and Ninja Steel.

Beast Morphers will be going backwards and adapt the 2012 series Go-Busters.

Since then, someone has uploaded quite a number of Henshin Ninja episodes at YouTube. Each episode is shown in its entirety.  I tried to post a link to those videos but I don't have a computer so am instead limited to using an android Phone at which I am unable to post video-links.  No matter, though, as you can easily find those episodes at YouTube.

Having seen at least five episodes so far I find it very enjoyable. In fact the Swordplay is even better than Lion Maru.

As a Fantasy-type series, one episode even used Frankenstein.  No, not as corny as it sounds because the idea was applied in a clever way with some imaginative twists.  The monster's head could be chopped off with the monster still surviving.  In fact, the head itself could attack.

Factory will be 1990's Chikyu Sentai Fiveman!  This marks the SECOND Super Sentai team that predates American adaptations, and hopefully it will not be the last!  Unfortunately, no price or release date has been confirmed at time of writing."  From - https://news.tokunation.com/companies/shout-factory
